Puzzle Review | USAOPOLY Game of Thrones 1,000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

I found this Game of Thrones 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle by USAOPOLY the other day when I was casually shopping in a toy store. I had to bring it home and it turned out to be a great decision! I accidentally got a very different puzzling experience! Might be the most difficult jigsaw puzzle I’ve ever done so far, and it’s enjoyable to do this puzzle!

USAOPOLY Brand Introduction

Established in 1994 and located in California, The Op Games (also known as usaopoly) mainly produces board games and puzzles. Their board games include famous products like Telestrations*, HUES and CUES*, and different versions of Monopoly, Clue, etc. They also have lots of big-brand-licensed jigsaw puzzles such as Harry Potter, Nintendo, Disney, Fox, and more themes.

USAOPOLY Game of Thrones 1,000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Quality and Review

Looking at the dark image, I knew it won’t be an easy puzzle to tackle, but didn’t realize it would be that hard. Two friends took turns to help me and it still took us a few days to finish it. Considering the puzzling time, it is a high-value-per-cost puzzle lol.

USAOPOLY also has other Game of Thrones themed puzzles*, but their outer box designs are a bit different, so I’m not sure if it’ll be the same series with the same cutting pattern.

Unboxing Experience

After unboxing, most pieces are properly cut. Only very few pieces were still connected and it was very easy to separate them. There was a bit more puzzle dust.

Puzzle Pieces

Here are some close-ups of the pieces. The printing quality in the front is pretty good. Although it mostly consists of similar dark colors, it is still printed beautifully so I can easily tell the differences between shades. Some details in the image, like the marks on the wall and the bone texture, are also quite clear to see. There is a slight grid texture on the surface of puzzle pieces. There were quite a few reflections when doing the puzzle and I had to move around to check the colors when doing parts that have a very cohesive tone. The pieces are thick and dense enough, and the color of their back is a blueish-grey. (It looks closer to blue in the pictures, but it’s more of a grey tone in real life.)

The shape of these puzzle pieces is what I love the most about this puzzle! ♡ Besides the basic shapes with 4 inward or outward tabs, it has a lot of pieces that have a special shape! There are also some that have 4 inward or outward tabs but are in a weird shape instead of a usual rectangle. So it will form all kinds of interesting combinations after putting some pieces together and you can’t think with regular puzzling logic. Some strange corners that you might see as a wrong placement in a regular puzzle could be completely right and normal in this one lol. (Just like the one below – It’s not aligned at all but it’s the right combo!) Every piece has a well-designed shape so that it’s easy to know if you get it right when you try to put pieces together, even though the colors are very close and they connect in a weird way. There were only 5 to 10 times when I thought I got it right but ended up needing to switch a puzzle piece. The pieces are strong and durable. I accidentally broke a section and had to re-do it but no pieces were hurt!

Though they are not as thick as the Ravensburger ones, the puzzle pieces do interlock with each other close and tight. There wasn’t a lot of space in between the pieces after it’s put together. And you can move around a small section of pieces quite easily. Yet some areas might have a weaker connection due to its cut with a special shape design. You’ll have to be a bit careful to move them while holding them in shape.

Puzzle Image And Level Of Difficulty

This dark image and the unpredictable puzzle shapes really enhance its level of difficulty and make it more interesting to do. You might need to prep the right mindset and space before you try it lol. But the unexpected and well-designed puzzle shapes also significantly increase the satisfaction and sense of achievement when you find and put the right piece! After finishing the puzzle, the cutting lines are quite visible. But this image with a huge skull is both soothing and magnificent – very beautiful. A great piece of art especially if you are a fan of Game of Thrones!

Final Thoughts

The puzzle pieces design of USAOPOLY Game of Thrones 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle is just ♡♡♡ (chef’s kiss) If you are tired of the basic inward outward inward outward puzzle pieces, or love the puzzling process more than the finished product (but the finished product is also great), then I will highly recommend trying this one! If you are not sure about its difficulty level, you can maybe try other puzzles that have an easier image on top. But the feeling of doing special-shaped pieces is really amazing ♡ I couldn’t envision how some of the pieces would fit into the puzzle, or how non-aligned spaces would be filled, but it all makes sense after it’s finished. It will make your brain think differently, love it!

Lastly, here are the pictures of the completed puzzle for your reference. You should be able to tell how weird those special pieces are combined together lol. Thank you so much for reading this long jigsaw puzzle review post! If you have any puzzles that you like, would like to recommend, or want to learn more about, please do not hesitate to leave me a comment so I can have an excuse to buy more puzzles! 😉
