The Struggle
Have you ever struggled with cooking because everything seems to firmly stick on your frying pan? Well, I do 🙂 (smiling with painful flash-back memories of scrapping ingredients off my old pans) I’m writing this post today to recommend a pan I got that is finally an actual non-stick pan, and I hope this can save all our future chefs’ lives.
As my roommate and I cook a lot during these quarantine days, we got to a point earlier this year that we could not bear with our stainless steel frying pan anymore. Every morning when we tried to start our day with a sunny-side-up, we ended up cooking an egg in 3 minutes yet followed by brushing our pan for 30 minutes. Or else we could also choose to pour a bucket of oil into the pan before cooking to make it less sticky. Even if we checked on the net for how to properly prep and treat a pan, we just couldn’t make it right. Our pan just didn’t buy those VIP spa treatments we gave it. So the only thing we could do was to say goodbye to it and start looking for a new relationship (with pans).
And then, I found THE ONE ↓
Some Concerns and Why I Decided to Give It A Try
Its scientific name (?) is “GreenPan Rio Healthy Ceramic Nonstick Frypan”. As its name implied, this is a non-stick ceramic pan from a Belgium brand called GreenPan. After some sad stories with our previous pans (yes, sadly, besides that stainless steel pan I mentioned, we had another regular non-stick pan that was definitely very good at sticking as well), I had been doing a lot of research before I ordered this pan. I couldn’t really find any experience-sharing reviews other than on Amazon, but the comments on Amazon were so diverse and I wasn’t sure which side to believe in. The final key factors that helped me decide to order were that it isn’t too expensive, and it’s a ceramic one, which means it will not cause health concerns even if it’s scratched (and also the fact that it has such a cute color with a white interior :-p). So I decided to give it a try even though it might not be able to last for a long time (some shares that it can only stay non-stick for about half a year).
So Is GreenPan Ceramic Nonstick Pan Worth It?
As soon as I received it, I unpacked it and tried to cook an egg (a sunny-side-up one, of course). And the result was AMAZING!!! It was soooo non-stick that I could just slide the egg out after it’s done. (My tears of joy almost slid down from my face as well.) I begged my roommate to give it a try asap and then we both fall in love with it ever since. <3
Since I heard that it might not last long, I didn’t want to write the post right after first using it. And now it’s been 3 months after receiving it, I think it would be a good time to tell you all its current status. We tried our best to treat it in the right way that it deserves (which is also tips for extending most of the non-stick pans’ life), hoping to keep a long, healthy relationship with it:
- No overheating. No letting the oil smoke. (And no oil spray!)
- No metal spatulas (We use a silicon one)
- Cleaning up gently with a sponge right after using it
To be honest, we got lazy after using it for about a month and started to use oil spray and not washing it right away now… But it’s still working great for us! I still get tears of joy filled in my eyes whenever using it (or it might be the onions that cause the tears). I can’t speak to how long it will last for now. It does start to show some small brown marks that cannot be washed off, but it is still very non-stick.
That’s it! My personal experience using the GreenPan Rio Healthy Ceramic Nonstick Frypan for your reference. I’ve never used a ceramic frypan from other brands so it might just be the case that all the ceramic pans are great. But if you are looking for a non-stick frypan, I will highly recommend this ceramic one from GreenPan! I think it’s totally worth a try!
