It’s been more than a year since last March when the pandemic started (time flies!). I’ve been working from home and upgrading my home office during this period. Using them for a while, I think I made some great purchases! This home office setup has helped me work from home more comfortably and efficiently. If you are just starting to build your home office or looking to have an upgrade or adjustment, I hope this post could provide you some inspiration and help you set up a home office that you enjoy working in! 🙂
Some Basics and Must-Haves
Starting from some basic items that we usually already have in our home, a desk that is steady and big enough can make your life a lot easier. (Flashback to when I used Amazon delivery carton boxes as my desk, then a small dining table from IKEA, and now the bigger IKEA desk… Having a big desk can bring in a broader, brighter world.) Getting a comfortable, supportive chair is also important, especially in this modern world when most of us spend lots of time sitting in front of our desks.
A nice pair of headphones is also highly recommended. Especially if you are sharing your space with others or if your job requires online meetings. Using headphones can greatly improve the sound quality and avoid having echoes. I’m using the wired Plantronics C5220* and AirPods* as the wireless option. Sufficient lighting is another essential element. I can work in the corner, but it cannot be a dark corner!
Dual Monitor (or More!)
And then here are some of the great additions that could profoundly increase work efficiency and comfort, starting with the dual monitor! Having a big extra monitor can really make you work more efficiently with ease of mind, particularly if you need to look at lots of numbers in your work!
Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
I think the wireless keyboard and mouse set has the highest value/cost ratio in this list. Because it’s wireless, you can place it on the table without the limitation and messiness of having wires. It can also help you to increase the distance between your eyes and the laptop screen compared to using the in-built laptop keyboard. And when switching between work and personal computers, you can use the same keyboard and mouse set without re-adapting to different keyboard arrangements for my hotkeys.
Adjustable Standing Desk
Another good decision I made is to buy this FLEXISPOT Standing Desk Converter* lol. By just simply putting this converter on my original, regular desk, I can change my position between sitting and standing whenever I want to. Yet another great item to make working from home more efficient and comfortable! 😉
This is the list of things in my current home office that help me improve my work efficiency and comfort level during this work-from-home period. I hope this provides you some inspiration when enhancing your home office! 🙂
